DESCRIPTION

"Soviet Bus Stops" is a collection of photographs by Christopher Herwig that captures the unique and diverse architecture of Soviet-era bus stops across 14 countries of the former Soviet Union.

The photographer initially noticed the unusual bus stop designs during a long-distance bike ride from London to St. Petersburg in 2002. Over the course of 12 years and more than 18,000 miles of travel, Herwig documented these bus stops, showcasing the artistic experimentation that took place at the local level during the Soviet period.

The book features a wide range of styles, from strict Brutalism to whimsical designs, providing a comprehensive look at Soviet bus stop architecture.
