From the Heads of the Hollers
A collection of images capturing the people and culture of the secluded mountain life in Appalachia. Inspired by the images of the Farm Security Administration depicting the impact of the Depression in the American South, photographer Shelby Lee Adams embarked on this project in 1973.
The photographs offer a glimpse into the unique and often overlooked aspects of life in the Appalachian mountains, showcasing the resilience and character of the people in this isolated region.
